El proyecto, financiado por Fondecyt y denominado&nbsp;<em>\u201cClimate-Change Refugia: A new biogeography tool for spatial prioritization of Chilean ecosystems\u201d<\/em>, marca un antes y un despu\u00e9s en la planificaci\u00f3n de la conservaci\u00f3n ambiental en el pa\u00eds.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los\u00a0<strong>refugios clim\u00e1ticos<\/strong>\u00a0son \u00e1reas que, por sus condiciones geogr\u00e1ficas y clim\u00e1ticas, <strong>pueden atenuar los efectos del cambio clim\u00e1tico, ofreciendo resguardo a especies vegetales y animales.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Refugios para proteger la biodiversidad frente al impacto del cambio clim\u00e1tico\" width=\"1140\" height=\"641\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/EFPIGSMN9yA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHoy, muchos ecosistemas y especies se ven forzados a desplazarse hacia zonas m\u00e1s fr\u00edas o h\u00famedas debido al aumento de las temperaturas y la disminuci\u00f3n de las lluvias\u201d, explica Pliscoff. Identificar estos refugios es crucial para proteger la biodiversidad en un pa\u00eds tan diverso y al mismo tiempo vulnerable como Chile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Se dise\u00f1\u00f3 un&nbsp;<strong>marco metodol\u00f3gico \u00fanico<\/strong>&nbsp;que cruza tres variables clave:&nbsp;<strong>geodiversidad<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>biodiversidad<\/strong>&nbsp;y la&nbsp;<strong>velocidad del cambio clim\u00e1tico<\/strong>. Aplicado a todo el territorio continental, este enfoque permiti\u00f3 identificar macrorefugios, por ejemplo, en la Patagonia, donde muchos coinciden con bosques nativos primarios que se mantienen casi inalterados por el ser humano.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En la&nbsp;<strong>zona central de Chile<\/strong>, los hallazgos son m\u00e1s alarmantes: el 95% de las \u00e1reas con alto valor como refugios clim\u00e1ticos no est\u00e1n protegidas oficialmente. \u201cEsto significa que zonas clave para el futuro de nuestra biodiversidad siguen sin reconocimiento ni resguardo legal\u201d, advierte Pliscoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>El caso de los Bosques de Zapallar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Una parte fundamental del estudio se centra en los&nbsp;<strong>Bosques de Zapallar<\/strong>, en la Regi\u00f3n de Valpara\u00edso. En este enclave \u00fanico, el equipo instal\u00f3 una red de&nbsp;<strong>100 sensores microclim\u00e1ticos<\/strong>&nbsp;que recolectan datos durante 10 a\u00f1os. Estos sensores permiten identificar&nbsp;<strong>microrefugios<\/strong>, sitios espec\u00edficos que albergan condiciones clim\u00e1ticas favorables incluso a escalas de pocos metros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La investigaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n incluy\u00f3 c\u00e1maras trampa para monitorear fauna, recolecci\u00f3n de insectos (entomofauna), y un exhaustivo levantamiento de flora y vegetaci\u00f3n en m\u00e1s de 150 sitios. \u201cEste trabajo no solo genera un mapa actual de la biodiversidad, sino que nos permite comparar con registros de hace 40 a\u00f1os y observar c\u00f3mo ha cambiado el paisaje\u201d, explica Pliscoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adem\u00e1s, se instal\u00f3 una&nbsp;<strong>estaci\u00f3n meteorol\u00f3gica<\/strong>&nbsp;y un sistema de medici\u00f3n de la camanchaca costera, en colaboraci\u00f3n con el Centro del Desierto de Atacama de la Universidad Cat\u00f3lica. Estos datos ser\u00e1n clave para entender c\u00f3mo la humedad del mar contribuye a mantener vivos estos ecosistemas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Impacto en pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uno de los grandes logros del proyecto es que sus resultados ya est\u00e1n siendo incorporados en pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas. La&nbsp;<strong>nueva ley del Servicio de Biodiversidad y \u00c1reas Protegidas<\/strong>&nbsp;incluye por primera vez el concepto de refugio clim\u00e1tico, y el&nbsp;<strong>Plan Nacional de Adaptaci\u00f3n al Cambio Clim\u00e1tico en Biodiversidad<\/strong>&nbsp;establece una meta para 2029: incorporar refugios clim\u00e1ticos en al menos un instrumento de conservaci\u00f3n legal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEsto abre la puerta a que tanto el Estado como organizaciones privadas y comunidades locales puedan actuar con herramientas concretas\u201d, comenta Pliscoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Con este trabajo, Pliscoff y su equipo no solo avanzan en la ciencia de la conservaci\u00f3n, sino que promueven un cambio en la forma en que Chile planifica y protege su patrimonio natural. \u201cLa conservaci\u00f3n hoy no puede ser est\u00e1tica. Necesitamos herramientas din\u00e1micas, informadas por la ciencia y que dialoguen con la sociedad.
