Academics from Universidad de los Andes presented the Fondef IDeA I+D project, led by Dolores Busso<\/a> <\/strong>and Javier Enrione<\/a><\/strong>, researchers from Universidad de los Andes School of Medicine<\/a><\/strong> and the Center for Biomedical Research and Innovation, CiiB UANDES. \u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This pioneering research aimed to develop a functional food supplement, based on fractionated quinoa peptides, for the prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), one of the most frequent metabolic complications during pregnancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The researchers presented the main scientific and technological achievements of the team, including the standardization of seed processing and bioactivity tests in animal models. The results obtained position the prototype as a natural and effective alternative to supplement the diet of pregnant women with glucose intolerance, helping to reduce the use of invasive pharmacological treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The study showed that quinoa-derived peptides have the ability to modulate glucose metabolism, which could prevent complications in both the mother and the fetus. This proposal, which integrates science, nutrition, and public health, represents a significant advance in the development of accessible and sustainable solutions to a growing problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
