The objective of the guideline is to provide the dental health care team with recommendations based on the best available scientific evidence for the detection, diagnosis, and clinical management of oral cavity cancer.
Academics from the School of Dentistry of Universidad de los Andes and the School of Dentistry of Universidad de La Frontera, Dr. Wilfredo González and Dr. Carlos Zaror respectively, lead the project "Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for the Detection, Diagnosis and Clinical Management of Oral Cavity Cancer." The project was awarded in the "Interdisciplinary and Associative Research Projects UANDES-UFRO 2023" contest, and its development will allow the creation of the new guideline with the backing and methodological support of the Chilean Ministry of Health.
This alliance will bring together members of the Cancer Center of Universidad de los Andes Clinic, the UANDES School of Dentistry, the Center for Research in Epidemiology, Economics and Oral Public Health (CIEESPO UFRO); and professionals from the Department of Health Technology Assessment and Evidence-Based Health, the Department of Oral Health, and the National Agency for Cancer Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health.

For its development, they have an outstanding panel of experts, composed of clinical professionals and members of the following societies and entities: the Chilean Society of Head and Neck Surgery and Maxillofacial Plastic Surgery, the Chilean Society of Bucomaxillofacial Pathology, the Chilean Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology, the Puerto Montt Hospital, the Antofagasta Hospital, the National Cancer Institute, the Arturo López Pérez Foundation, the Chilean Society of Oncological Pharmacy, the Chilean Society of Oncological Radiotherapy, the Chilean Society of Oncological Nursing, the Chilean Thyroid Cancer Foundation, the Mujeres por un Lazo Foundation, the Supply Center of the National Health Services System (CENABAST), the Public Health Institute of Chile, FONASA, the Department of Care Management (Primary Care Division), and the Healthcare Network Management Division (DIGERA) of the Ministry of Health.
