Universidad de los Andes signed a collaboration agreement with the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society of University of Notre Dame (USA), with the purpose of promoting data science oriented toward the common good.

The agreement was signed by the Rector of Universidad de los Andes, José Antonio Guzmán, and the founder of the Lucy Family Institute, Nitesh Chawla, a faculty member at the Frank M. Freimann College of Engineering at University of Notre Dame. The signing was part of an institutional visit that included opportunities for collaborative work and joint planning of activities.

The Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society of the University of Notre Dameis an interdisciplinary internationally renowned center that, guided by Notre Dame's mission, promotes the development of research and training in Artificial Intelligence and data science to address, from an ethical perspective, the major social challenges of the 21st century. In its work, the institute acts as an innovative bridge between academia, the public sector, and industry,and promotes open access and inclusive capacity building across diverse communities.

This agreement aligns with the institutional commitment of Universidad de los Andes to Open Science, and will enable the development of collaborative activities such as the generation of joint projects by reusing data based on FAIR principles; the promotion of ethical and inclusive frameworks for the exchange of data and publications; the academic and professional mobility of researchers and data managers; as well as the organization of seminars, workshops, and training programs; and joint participation in publications, conferences, and international scientific dissemination activities.

This strategic alliance reinforces UANDES's leadership in responsible innovation and consolidates global collaboration networks with centers of excellence committed to a more open, collaborative, and transformative approach to science.
