Javier Pinto, professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, is preparing the publication of two books and is leading international initiatives that seek to deepen the role of virtues and good practices within the company.
The academic from the School of Economics and Business Administration, Javier Pinto researches business and professional ethics, with emphasis on virtue ethics. Currently the professor is finalizing two projects related to this topic, the first is a book on justice and business, which will be published soon by an international publishing house. The second is a collective volume, of which Javier Pinto is the editor, a publication that offers a review of the most relevant theories on work, especially in the twentieth century, with the participation of professors from the University of Chile. University of Navarra (Spain) and the University of the Holy Cross (Italy), among others.
Pinto's interest in this area stems from the The conviction that virtue ethics offers a fruitful framework for reflecting on business. In particular, it seeks to understand the nature of work within the organization and the normative principles that should guide the way people's work is organized.
With this motivation has developed content for teaching business and professional ethics.. "Currently there is a gap in the preparation of new and better university professors in this area, especially in professional ethics, a key topic in the education of future professionals and leaders," explains the academic from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration.
Today, Pinto works with Germán Scalzo, of the University of Navarraand with a group of business ethics professors from the Mendoza College of Business at the University of California, Mendoza. University of Notre Dame(United States), particularly with Greg Robson and John Sikorski.
With this team, he is developing a research track on virtues, work and business. Currently they already have a working paper They plan to add other studies on virtues such as humility, trust and care. In addition, Pinto and his collaborators are working on a preliminary stage of a project that seeks to create an encyclopedia of good and bad business and professional practices in order to compile experiences, systematize learning and offer references that will help to raise ethical standards in companies and professions.
